How Harmful Is Intake Of Meftal-P Instead Of Maxtra-P By A Toddler?

Hello Doctor, my 3 year old daughter was prescribed Maxtra - P, for loose motion and vomiting. By mistake in medicine shop we purchased Meftal - P and have given the doze to her for two days, till we find the mistake. The paediatrician is out of town for a week, so I can not contact him now. Can you please tell, what should I do now? Shall I use the actual medicine as per prescription? Is there any side effect of this mistake?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your child is suffering from vomiting and loose motion which seems to be due to acute gastroenteritis which could be due to a virus. Need not to worry. Meftal P is safe for child and it is used for lowering of fever. You should take Probiotics such as lactobacillus. I would suggest you to start giving oral rehydration fluids sip by sip to maintain the hydration. Visit pediatrician once and get it examined. You should go for blood tests as well and start treatment after proper examination. You should give Ibuprofen to child along with proton pump inhibitors as well. I would suggest you to take antiemetic like domperidone and ranitidine for gastritis. Avoid giving any sharp and spicy food.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
