How Effective Are Steroids In Managing Knee Pain?

I have had knee pain for about 1 1/2 months. I recently was bitten by a bee to which I had a reaction. The doctor put me on steroids and now the pain in my knee seems to be better after a day and a half. Could the steroids have taken the knee pain away.

Hello,

I had gone through your query
and understand your concern.

Steroids are good anti-inflammatory drugs. Good in the sense they act fast to reduce the inflammation. Your knee pain is seems be due to arthritis which is an inflammatory condition. Steroids which you have taken for honey bee sting has reduced the inflammation in your knee. This is the reason for reduced pain in your knee.

Steroids have many side effects. They help you to feel better in short time but when used for long time they in turn damage your knee. So, I suggest you to not to take any steroids for your knee pain.

Hope I answered your question.

If you have any other queries, feel free to ask.

Regards,
Dr Prathap kumar
