How Does Diabetic Nerve Pain Differ From CIDP?

sir, my father is suffering from pain in right leg for the last one month.he is type 2 diabetic and taking medications for it.after visiting a neuro doctor he prescribed certain test and after those test he is asking for sural nerve biobsy.my question is what is the difference between diabetic nerve pain and cdip?

Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern.
Diabetic neuropathy is due to uncontrolled hyperglycemia while CDIP is autoimmune. Diabetic neuropathy is symmetrical i.e. involving both sides while CDIP is asymmetric i.e. involving one side.
Diabetic neuropathy responds to tight blood sugar control and lyrica while CDIP responds to steriods, immunosuppresants and plasmapheresis.
Sural nerve biopsy is the best stool to diagnose CDIP as NCS studies and EMG can't differentiate between CDIP and diabetic neuropathy.
