How Different Is Zocor 40mg From Pravastatin 40mg?

What is the difference in Zocor 40 mg and pravastatin 40 mg? I was on Zocor and when I went to pick my medicine up today it wasn t zocor it was Pravastatin 40 mg instead. I know the Zocor is cheaper than this one. anyway, I want to take what is best. Sincerely, Claudine

Zocor contains simvastatin. Both Zocor and pravastatin belong to statin class of drug which is used for treatment of increased cholesterol. Both are equally effective. Both have similar side effect profile. You can use either Zocor or pravastatin as suggested by your doctor. Both are similar. Alternative is rosuvastatin which is considered as best statin. You can use rosuvastatin 10 mg at bed time for best result. You can discuss about rosuvastatin with your doctor.
