How Could Diastasis Effect Pregnancy ?

Hello,
I gave birth nine months ago to twins and I have been told recently that I have diastasis in my abs. I am pregnant again and concerned that the diastasis could affect the baby or my health. Will the diastasis affect the pregnancy?
Thanks,
Krista Dunn

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

What you are describing is a separation of the muscles on your belly related to the prior pregnancy and an "overdistended" uterus. This is really quite common. The main issue is that your core abdominal strength is compromised. You can work with a Physical Therapist to improve your core strength and address this issue, even during the pregnancy. Otherwise, there is no risk to the pregnancy itself.

I hope that this helps and good luck!
