How Concerned Should I Be About Recent Oily, Foul Diarrhea With Cramps And Flatulence?

How concerned should I be about recent oily, foul diarrhea with cramps and flatulence? I’m 47, F, Obese, Hx fatty liver, IBS, non-diabetic. One week copious gas and very foul smelling floating diarrhea, approx. 5x/day. No fever or recent illnesses. Only dietary change was that a neighbor gave me a few pounds of organic pecans (my favorite) and I ate a lot of them for a few days in a row. Nuts often cause my IBS to act up but this is different. Very unpleasant.

Hi,

Based on your description, it is possible that you may be experiencing a gastrointestinal infection or food poisoning from the pecans. It is important to stay hydrated and monitor your symptoms closely. If your symptoms persist for more than a few days or worsen, you should seek medical attention.

In addition, given your history of IBS and fatty liver, it would be advisable to follow up with your healthcare provider to evaluate your symptoms and ensure that there are no underlying issues that require treatment. Your provider may recommend further testing, such as stool analysis or imaging studies, to help diagnose the cause of your symptoms.

In the meantime, it may be helpful to avoid foods that can exacerbate IBS, such as nuts and fatty foods, and instead focus on consuming easily digestible foods and plenty of fluids. It is also important to practice good hygiene, such as washing your hands frequently, to prevent the spread of any potential infections.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
