How Common Is Adult Onset Of Asthma?

Hi, what is the percentage of asthma patients that is adult-onset only (in other words these adults never had asthma as children)? How common is adult onset asthma, and in every 100,000 people (say) what percentage of them would develop it? I can t find any good statistics on the prevalence of this form of the disease.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Adult onset asthma is very common now a days. Honestly speaking, this terminology is not much used now. New terminology 'asthma COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS)' has replaced late onset or adult onset asthma. It's percentage are 0.1-0.15%. So if you consider population in lakhs then 10-15 patients are there.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
