How Can Weight Gain Be Prevented While On Omnacortil?

I have vitiligo and its tending to increase a bit from last few months. My doctor has prescribed me omnacortil 20 mg for 15days and then has asked me to reduce its dosage to 10mg and 5 mg for another 30 days. Is there any way to prevent weight gain, as it s one of the severe side effects of consumption of this steroid.

Hi,

Weight gain is a common side effect of Omnacortil. Weight gain while taking Omnacortil is typically due to fluid retention and increased calorie intake because of increased appetite.

Fluid retention can be controlled by eating a diet low in sodium—no more than 2,000 mg a day—and higher in potassium. You can also consult a nutritionist for other specifics regarding your diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
