How Can Urinary Tract Infection Be Treated?

I have had three urinary track infections in the past four months have seen the internal medicine doctor over the past three weeks. He has prescribed two different medications and no improvement. Now he wants me to see a urologist, not sure of the spelling, sorry. should I be concerned about this. I am 77 and a non insulin diabetic.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

I agree with your doctor about the need to see a urologist at this stage. It does not mean that there is a serious medical issues however .
The urologist would be able to give further insight into the cause of the frequent infections and initiate appropriate treatment.

In addition to likely repeating your lab urine analysis, the urologist would likely suggest imaging of the urinary tract to see if there is any structural reason (slight change in structure of some aspect of urinary tract) , that would cause these infections to occur.

I hope this helps
