How Can Toxic Multi-nodular Goiter Be Treated?

I was diagnosed five years ago as having a toxic multi-nodular goiter which has both hot and cold nodules. I have taken methamazole in 2.5 mm every other day. Two months ago my doctor reduced it to 2.5 three times a week because she has concerns about long term use. Should I be concerned. Measurements of my goiter and the nodeules have shown no growth during the five years.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

You can continue methimazole.

Frequent followup with TFT (thyroid function test) is required.

If there is an increase in size, you can consider surgical removal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
