How Can Throat Ache And Cough Be Treated?

I have had throat pain for the past month, with coughing. I’ve been clearing my throat to spit out mucus as much as possible. Today I kept pulling trying to clear and it felt large I kept pulling and a large grayish tissue came up it almost looked like a vein it was tubular shaped and rubbery. I took a picture an hour later and it has hardened and turn a dark purple color. Should I be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are:
-Use pain relievers, such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen and naproxen, to relieve the aches and pains of a cold and sore throat.
-Use sore throat sprays and lozenges to soothe your throat and numb the throat pain temporarily.
-Use decongestant nasal sprays to relieve a sore throat caused by postnasal drip -- nasal drainage that runs down your throat.
-Antibiotics should not be used to treat a cold virus and sore throat. Antibiotics are effective only against bacteria.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
