How Can Swelling In The Right Bicep Caused By An Injury Be Treated?

I injured my right bicep when I threw a toy into the water for my dog. After one week the pain has subsided but the bicep is swollen. I applied cold twice to the bicep with little effect. Should I continue to apply and when if ever should I seek professional help ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As there is period of one week past injury, there sounds hematoma inside the muscle most likely showing up as swelling in the biceps.

* Now the ice application alone can not be sufficient for its complete resolution and you must visit your doc for prescription of necessary antibiotics and anti inflammatory medicines, as if it is not resolved one may end up with need of incision and drainage procedure of surgery to cure the possible hematoma.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
