How Can Stress Incontinence Be Treated?

I have stress incontinence and dr is suggesting a sling. He said it is like a hammock to hold everything together, I am going back to his office later this month to go over all options. I have heard many complaints with the sling/mesh and been doing research on it also. I see many complaints from years ago, are these issues still happening today or is it old material that was recalled? If still issues, what other options do I have that I can suggest to my dr while we are discussing my surgery?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* The presentation of narrated symptoms suggest that this requires definite management with various options as:

- Conventional medications for bladder control ( which must have been prescribed till now and so not mentioned ).
- Stem cell therapy is very promising way to control the stress incontinence and should be discussed with your consultant.
- Options of sling are artificial urinary sphincter, robotic surgery and so forth which are beyond the scope of this platform and require in office visit to urosurgeon.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
