How Can Sinusitis Along With Breathing Difficulty And Headaches Be Treated?

Hi, so I have been using afrin for the past five years. My sinuses are really awful and I have trouble breathing without the afrin. Lately, I have been feeling very numb in my middle cheek area, and have been having dull headaches. Also, my ear feels full often. I’m guessing I have a sinus infection, but also I have been feeling numbness in my left arm. I do have horrible anxiety and google doesn’t help, and I am fearful that I have a brain absess or something along the lines of that due to the infection. I just wanted to know what your thoughts are and what you might think this is. I am going to the ER tomorrow morning.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Chronic Afrin intake can lead to bronchitis (inflammation of airways).
So better to consult pulmonologist and get clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) done.
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and the treatment is based on severity only.
You will mostly improve with inhaled bronchodilators (Formoterol or Salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (Budesonide or Fluticasone).
You should also consult psychiatrist for Afrin deaddiction.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,
Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar
