Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A 82 year old woman who is like a mother to me. And I checked her blood pressure and heart rate. It was 144/72 pulse 48. She fell twice a few days ago and her memory for short term is fading. She is having memories returning to her when her son was a baby that she had forgotten but is starting to forget things that happened yesterday. I understand some of these symptoms are due to aging but for her heart rate should she consider oxygen to help her with her heart? Thank You for your time Marianne Lofton
Forgetting things in old age is common however it is not always because of age. Their are certain causes of dimentia (forgetting things) that are reversible. Like thyroid problem, infection or vitamin deficiencies. Though some may be not correctable. Similarly you are very right her pulse is very low.
This also needs assessment. So she should be urgently seen by a doctor who should assess her in detail if any correctable cause is there. Even if the problem is not reversible, there are medicine that can help her. So please take her to a doctor, preferably a neurologist to see her.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
