How Can Severe Pain In The Legs Be Treated?

My legs hurt. Standing is excruciatingly painful. I have a history of DVT in my left leg about 7 years ago. I was on blood thinners for 2 years. I was checked for pulmonary embolism and DVD 2 months ago. All clear. My left leg is noticeably larger than my right. About year ago I had my right leg checked and cleared by orthopedics. I thought possibly it was wasting away. The left leg seems to be bigger than before. It s easy to see the difference. Where do I start to look for help

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

After one episode for deep venous thrombosis there is lifetime increased risk for On other episode. Persistent swelling for years in the involved limb is also common. Since you were checked for DVT before 2 months and it was clear you need not to worry. But if there is sudden increase in swelling, you should get yourself checked work Doppler ultrasound of left lower limb again. Pain may be due to increased swelling. You can take tab Ibuprofen for pain relief. Visit to vascular surgeon on regular basis is recommended.

Hope this is useful.
