How Can Severe Pain In The Leg Due To A Thorn Prick Be Treated?

Hi I just had a dead blackberry thorn stab right into my leg just abit below my knee. It went right in and was quiet big. I pulled it out and im sure I got it all. Now my knee and the spot where it went in is really sore. Theres only a smallish bump and thats all. No redness nothing. Its strange as I have them get stuck in me alot and its never hurt like this. Do you know?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As the thorn is removed completely, it is quite fine for recovery. So far as reason of pain is concerned, it is due to possible inflammation at the site of thorn injury in form of hematoma or tissue damage. I recommend following for better recovery:
- Ice application 3 times a day.
- Tablet Ibuprofen 3 times a day after meals.
- Follow up after 24 hours or early as per the requirement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
