How Can Severe Hair Loss In An 18-year-old On A Poor Diet Be Treated?

Hi, I m a 18 year old student that has been studying in a hostel for almost one year. Just recently I started losing Lots of hair and Scalp is already visible. My hair line has receded abnormally for a guy my age. There are quite of possible reason of why this has happened 1. the water of city in which I ve moved in, is hard and so hair loss is common among the students (though not at this level). 2. I ve been under a lot of stress ever since I ve moved here and it keeps piling up with the final exam coming over. 3. I don t know if this has any effect but I get a sleep of about 6 hours usually. 4. Malnutrition, food given doesn t provide me with the The nutrients that the body requires, because of this I have lost a lot of weight too. 5. I drink about 4 cups of black coffee and 2 cups of green tea. I have started using BTN FORTE But there seems to be no result, I m losing the same amount of hair and the hair density is getting lower and lower. I still have about a month left before I can go home, question is, what can I do to stop hair fall and more importantly regain my hair line and the hair that I ve lost?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hair fall is always multifactorial. In your case, the shift in city and poor nutrition coupled with stress explains easily the causative factors for your hair fall and loss.

I suggest:

1) visit a dermatologist and start with PRP - platelet rejuvenation plasma treatment, where your own plasma is injected into your scalp. This plasma is rich in growth factors and platelets and further strengthen the hair follicles along with stimulating new hair growth. The doctor would also start you on topical Minoxidil5% to be applied on the scalp every night for a minimum of a year to see optimum result. The minoxidil also stimulates new hair growth.

2) Work on your diet and consume multivitamins especially with biotin in them.

3) exercising and deep breathing exercises always helps, as it stimulates blood circulation to the scalp.

Hope that helps!
