How Can Severe Diarrhea And Worsening Weight Loss In A Crohn's Disease Patient Be Treated?

My husband has crohns and is taking Pentasa. But the diarrhea is still bad. He s been taking it for over a month. He has tried supplementing the Pentasa with an over the counter diarrhea med but nothing seems to be working. His weight loss is getting worse. We are at our wit s end! Do you have any advise for us? dl

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Diarrhea may be due to inflammatory bowel disease need to add on antibiotics and immunosuppressants to control inflammation.
Avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.
Take soft diet, use Pantaprazol before breakfast for one week.
If symptoms not improved please consult your gastroentrologist he will examine and do colonoscopy and treat you accordingly.

In IBD he may need on therapy of drugs if the remission accure then need maintenance therapy. Probably he may need to take other drugs like probiotics, immunomodulator/Immunosuppressants with antibiotics.
If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
