How Can Severe Bulging Disc And Degenerative Disc Disease Be Treated?

I have been suffering from four bulging discs, two of them herniated, and degenerative disc disease throughout my lower spine. I have been on soma and 10/325 percosets for six months. The last month they had me on 15 mg of oxy continue for 30 days, before my employer decided to no longer be obligated to offer me insurance. So I had to go with medical. So I had to get new specialists including pain management and a new cardiologist ( for a heart attack I had on 2/11/16). During insurance transition, my progress was halted and I went without meds for 30 days cold turkey. Until new dr put me on tylenol #4 and robaxin for pain for 60 days until a new pain management was authorised. I cannot get spinal injections until I am off of the effient , so I am waiting to do nuclear stress test to see if they can take me off of the effient . Meanwhile, the new pm dr tried me out on 15 mg / 3 times a day o f morphine. No noticeable relief. So he prescribed me suboxone , to take without informing me how to take it, except for instructions on boxes. So I took my usual three tabs of morphine, and got a call to pick up sub. So I waited til next morning and took one film and felt dizzy. Instructions said to take one film every 8 hrs for pain as needed, so I took one film 8 hrs later. Within a few hrs I got sicker than I ever have been in my whole life! I was continually dizzy for hrs ,I couldn t sleep at all, I power vomited for hrs and thought I was going to die! It would have been nice to be instructed a little better on what I was doing! I called pm dr this morning and they told me to wait until I can hold down food and start sub again tomorrow morning. I am deathly afraid to take that again! So after all of this, ( thank u for bearing with me ) I want to be sure I have waited long enough before I take sub again. I just done some research and found out I went through a precipitated withdrawal...funny how I learned more about this online than from my own dr! I figured since I went cold turkey from previous opioids, I had went through all withdrawals and I would be good. I was surprised when dr gave me this new drug, when I just thought maybe I had a higher tolerance. I m still a little confused. Dr seemed to be in a hurry to give me a new drug and prescribe therapy along with this. I put my trust in him to inform me of what I would be getting into or maybe he assumed I knew, I don t know. So I am reaching out to anyone for advice. Respectfully jt

Hi,

There are two treatments. One is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication with complete rest, you don't have to get up from your bed till your orthopedic surgeon will not advise yours otherwise.

The second one is surgical procedures that will be decided by your orthopedic surgeon or neurosurgeon depending upon your condition of disc disintegration.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
