How Can Severe Atopic Eczema Be Treated?

Hi Sir, My elder son has 10 years old , he is suffering from a severe atopic eczema , it began with him from about two years ago, I used with him many kinds of creams like vaseline , Zinc cream , Panthenol cream and some times when his condition get worse i use Cortisone cream but not more than continued three days as per doctor advice. I want to ask is there any other remedy that i can use to make him recover faster and if his condition could improve or this allergy would continue with him for a long term?

Hi,

Atopic dermatitis is an immune mediated eczematous skin condition. It improves with age. Apart from emollients/ moisturizers, which form an important part of therapy in atopic dermatitis, specific topical measures include steroid creams and Calcineurin inhibitors like Tacrolimus and Pimecrolimus. Calcineurin inhibitors are non-steroidal and can be used for mild involvement or to taper off steroid therapy. They can even be used long term for maintenance whereas steroid creams are only for short term use in an acute exacerbation. In addition I also suggest you to use an oral Antihistamine, e.g., Syrup Cetrizine for symptomatic relief from itching.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
