How Can Severe Anxiety And Panic Attacks Be Treated?
Hi, I have a question regarding the medicine Klonapin or Clonazepam. I have been taking it for over 25 years and it has worked very well for me and treating my anxiety. I was diagnosed back then with General Anxiety Disorder and my new Nurse Practitioner switched me to Hydroxyzine which didn t work at all and then to Gabapentin and it doesn t seems to work okay but I m now having lots of anxiety again and some panic attacks which is not fun. I want to know if there is something negative with using Clonazepam?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As you have told you are suffering from generalized anxiety disorder with panic attacks and currently taking tablet clonazepam. I would like to inform you that Clonazepam is a good medicine for acute panic attacks which can give you instant relief but it will not help you with your generalized anxiety features. Moreover, with Clonazepam, you are likely to get addicted. So, I suggest you to consult your psychiatrist about this. If I were your psychiatrist, I would have started you on SNRI group of medicine for anxiety and Clonazepam as and when required.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Prashant Gohil
