How Can Severe Anxiety And Depression Be Treated?

My 15 yr old granddaughter was given lexapro for anxiety and depression. She refuses to take the medication. Her behavior is terrible. Calls her mom names, blames everything on someone else. She disrupts the entire family. Our family has a history of depression and anxiety and we see my granddaughter s exhibit the same why we did before the medication. She was always very kind sweet child but no more. What can we do about this situation? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there. It seems you are in quite a difficult situation.
Due to the strong family history it is possible she also suffers from these conditions. Her personality structure can also play a big role in this situation. It is always a good choice to try and takk to her regarding the illness, and the things that can happen when she does not take treatment for example poor performance at school etc.
It could also be of benefit for her to build a relationship with a therapist for therapy. Along with medication that has the best outcome.
