Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my husband is scheduled for a colonoscopy and possibly an upper GI (I believe it is called). He has heartburn really bad and chokes sometimes in the middle of the night. Will the upper GI be considered preventative? Should proceed with this part of the procedure regardless of the cost per his symptoms? Cindy
Upper gastrointestinal (GI) can diagnose your problems but not treat it. I with the proper diagnosis you can get symptoms relieved. Acid reflux may be due to hiatus hernia also it should be treated if present. Slight elevation of the bed 30 degrees is necessary while sleeping in order to stop reflex and choking. Eat good food and sleep after two hours of food intake.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
