How Can Post Laminectomy Syndrome Be Treated?
It s a big question... I ve been diagnosed w postlaminectomy syndrome. Pain meds available thru pain clinic but no ones looking for the reasons I m in pain. Original surgery was Sept5214 to remove a 7 mm mass from l1l2. I ve been in pain every day and it s only getting worse. I had an MRI two days ago and it s showing a slight bulge at l3 l4 and l4l5. Post surgical changes posteriorly. Mild kyphosis at l1l2. Minimum ligament flavin hypertropothyand rt sided facet arthropathy. The bulge at l4-5 also includes slight thecal sac compression posteriorly along w mild ligament flavin hypertropathy and minimum facet arthropathy. Is all of this normal??? Shouldn t I have had something done at the time of surgery that would have prevented these problems and two years of pure hell?

Pain medicine physicians are usually called upon with this condition because they are experts in treating chronic pain. Medications such as anti-seizure medications and certain antidepressants can ease nerve pain are the first line of treatment. However, often they have been tried prior to surgery.
If therapy and medications are not providing enough relief, your pain medicine physician may perform a spinal cord stimulator trial.
