How Can Painful Tendonitis On The Left Knee Be Treated?

I have an issue with my left knee for about 8 weeks. X-ray shows tendonitis. I have been icing the joint and taking Celebrex. No swelling in knee but am not able to walk normally (bending both knees). There is pinching pain in th front of the knee when I try to walk normally.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In most cases, it should be treated with immobilization and anti-inflammatory agents such as Ibuprofen or Diclofenac. However, if there is concomitant tendon rupture then surgery may be required.

If there is pus discharge, fever, redness, then it may indicate inflammation and you may need antibiotics. Also, if pain is progressive you should do X-rays to rule out bone fracture in an injured area as sometimes fracture may be visible only after 2 weeks.

Till this, you should rest, apply cold compresses, keep it elevated and take non-steroid pain killers such as Ibuprofen or Diclofenac. It is, however, expected that symptoms may persist even for up to 2 weeks but just watch for these signs that I have mentioned and be patient.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
