How Can Painful Swelling And Numbness On The Thumb Be Treated?

mosquito bite (I think) yesterday on 1st proximal phalanx (thumb). Swelling has causing pain and numbness over entire 1st digit while progressing into the hand. Any remedies to recommend? I am a Chiro student seeking an immediate remedy (also would like to learn a bit about this reaction and how it can be diminished).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If you are allergic to mosquito bite it may cause such severe inflammatory reaction OR it also may be some other insect bite.

You should wash the hand with soda bicarb solution trying to remove the entangled mouth part.

Take over the counter anti-inflammatory drug like Ibuprofen twice a day after food & and anti-allergic pill like Cetrizine at bedtime (dose depending on your age & body weight.).

Total relief should be in 4-5 days time. If not so please consult your family doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
