Hello,

Gallstones may cause biliary colic or cholecystitis. Cholecystitis causes persistent pain that will drive you to the hospital. Biliary colic usually causes a short lived painful event that occurs about 90 minutes after consuming a fatty meal. It usually lasts for minutes (up to an hour).

The paints expected to occur right under the lower ribs to your right but it may also radiate to the center of the upper abdomen and to the back.

If this pain pattern sounds familiar then an ultrasound scan should be done and a general surgeon consulted. If the gallstones are small then there is some risk for pancreatic insult as well which is a dreadful complication of gallstone disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
