How Can Pain In The Wrist After Playing Tennis Be Treated?

I fell playing tennis this evening. I tried to catch myself with my left hand hitting the court first. I was fine and continued playing for another hour. I felt no pain. On my way home my wrist started hurting. I can t hold a glass, squeeze the toothpaste or turn a door knob due to intense pain. I don t understand why my wrist didn t start hurting immediately and need to know if I should see a doctor or if I can treat myself.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms seem to be related to overuse of the wrist.

I suggest using ice compresses to relieve the pain and maintain the wrist immobilized.

I also suggest using anti inflammatory medication for the pain such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
