How Can Pain Due To Kidney Stone Be Treated?

I have had a kidney stone attack and have experienced pain in my left side. Along with the pain I have had a urgs to throw up but could not. Had a cat scan and a 3mm stone was at beginning of urethra. Doctor perscribed ketorolac 10mg for pain and uroxatral to help pass the stone. Insurance had a problem with the ketorolac and naproxen 500mg was substituted. Are they similar pain killers?

You seem to be having a small kidney stone that may pass easily as it is just 3mm in size.

The first medication that is prescribed in kidney stones is for the relieve of pain and the most commonly used group of drugs is called as NSAID. Ketorolac and Naproxin belong to the NSAID group of drugs . Ketorolac is generally a strong and well tolerated pain killer but its number of side effects are greater then that of Naproxin. But naproxin on the other hand is a well tolerated medicine too but its pain killing effect is less as compared to ketorolac. Having said that, Naproxin may also be prescribed in cases of renal stones .
