General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Ejection fraction of 28% is on lower side, this is a kind of measure of the heart's efficiency. A normal healthy heart will have an EF of around 50 - 65%. Take off excess weight, reduce sodium intake, reduce cholesterol and dietary fat consumption, reduce blood pressure, exercise within reasonable limits, Use heart medications as prescrbed.
These things will help prevent further damage to your heart. It's the damage to your heart that matters, not the actual EF number.
Many live normal lives with a lower than normal EF. There are people who have lived normal lifespans with EFs below 20%.
