Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I am 32 and used to play high level soccer. My legs have taken a beating over the years. Recently while running, my ankle became really sore, but not like a sprained ankle. I thought I had a stress fracture but after going to the doctor it turns out I have ligament damage in my ankles from years of abuse and sprains. Is there anything I can do to help repair the ligaments or help my ankles so I am not in a wheel chair when I am older. Right now I just want to be able to go running.
First of all I would advise you to consult a sports medicine doctor to get a proper clinical evaluation, examination and thus get further evaluation by MRI or so. This will give the idea about the exact damage, extent of damage, need of any surgical correction or conservative management to be continued by you till it gets healed up well. Stop running or any other activities that put on a further strain on ankles, ligaments. Chronic ligament ailments are typical, least diagnosed and not well treated, the need to have a proper clinical evaluation, examination and management now.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
