How Can Itchy Rashes On The Body Be Treated?

Hi, my 8 year old daughter has chronic hives. She’s currently on day 3 of a 5 day steroid (prednisoline) course but is now crying with discomfort due to her itching. She had 4 tablets at 8 in the morning, is she allowed to have piriton now? A couple of months back, We gave her citrizine ( hours after) with prednisoline and she woke up swollen. I’m scared it might happen again. Thanks from worried mum xxx

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, you could try hydroxyzine as an alternative to cetrizine. It is from a different class of anti-allergen, and may help reduce the itching.

At the same time, watch out for increased rashes in the event that she is allergic to this too. And give the steroids some more time, as they usually work very well with hives. Additionally, you could consult your doctor about using benadryl sparingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
