How Can Inflammation In The Eyes Be Treated?

My granddaughter is 28 & has trouble with her feet. She has always done a lot of exercising. Now she is having bad trouble with her eyes. She has been to a regular Dr, to an optometrist, and now to an ophthalmologist. He is giving her steroids to help her eyes saying that it is inflammation. He says her body is attacking her eyes and that she needs to be checked for rheumatoid arthritis or a genetic disorder that is most common in healthy young females What is your opinion? She is a school teacher & thought she had pink eye.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Does she have any other symptoms like dryness of eyes and mouth or rashes over the face? Coming to your question, I suggest you to take ANA test to rule out Sjogren`s syndrome & SLE and consult a physician as these may also affect eyes and foot. Mean while steroids is good choice for treatment for few days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
