How Can Herpes Transmission After Unsafe Intercourse Be Confirmed?
hello, 4 days ago I was with a high risk partner. I did use a condom. She did not have any visible symptoms and we did both shower before the encounter. I havent had any symptoms of itching or redness. However, after reading more about hsv-2, anxiety has made focus on every little feeling below the waist. I ve realized, so far, that it is my mind playing tricks. How long do I need to wait before I can feel safe that I have not contracted herpes?

Herpes is acquired through intimate sexual contact with an infected partner. The infection is acquired by rubbing of the infected area against the partners skin/genital mucosa.
A condom does'nt afford 100% protection because it covers only the shaft and business end of penis.
While herpes has a short incubation period of 2-5 days, the infection may not always be clinically obvious. There can be sub-clinical infection with herpes, which may later reactivate and cause genital sores.
Therefore, the best way to be sure whether you have herpes or not is to get yourself tested at appropriate intervals; 2 weeks for herpes and 1 month for HIV, VDRL for syphilis and Hepatitis B virus, after the risky sexual encounter.
