How Can Hallucinations While Suffering From High BP Be Treated?

Female age 83 some high blood pressure & cholesterol issues- diagnosed with mini stroke Dec 2017- unsure of when. Awaiting neurologist appt. brain mri, blood work, eye exam all good. Person has auditory & visual hallucinations, paranoia, mood swings, can become easily agitated. Took trazadone for approx 1 wk, no improvement. Taken off trazadone. Put on low 25mg Xanax dose yesterday evening. Symptoms persisting. Is there anything her family can do for her other than keep her comfortable, fed, hydrated & cared for? Should we go along with her delusions or ensure her they are not real? Neither has worked better than the other. Any other options while we wait on neurologists appt?

Hello,
I am sorry that you are having this issue. It really does not help to tell delusional patients that their delusions are not true. I advise that you just ignore them. An antipsychotic medication may be helpful but they can be dangerous in older patients. Check with her primary care doctor about this possibility.
Regards
