How Can Gastroenteritis Along With UTI And Sinusitis Be Treated?

I went to the ER last night and was diagnosed with Gastroenteritis, UTI, and sinus infection. I was given Levofloxacin by IV, along with 2 bags of IV fluids. I don t think the correct diagnosis was made, I had severe vomiting, diarrhea, that have lasted 3 days, severe chest pain, and headache along with stomach and back pain. I developed hives from this antibiotic so the Dr ordered me Kelley. My chest still hurts horribly bad. My headache is still here. Dr ordered no pain medication at all. I am hopeing with the switching of my antibiotic I will begin to feel better. I am worried because I am overweight, 35 year old female. Chest X-ray and blood work was done, also had 103 fever

Hello,

I could understand the emotional stress that your are under. Your abdominal symptoms and fever is highly suggestive of an infection.

Levofloxacin is an antibiotic which is advanced and equally effective on GI and urinary tract infections. Generally we prescribe oral Norfloxacin for moderate illness and patients who can tolerate oral drugs. since you had severe vomiting and diarrhea it's logical that you have been started on IV drugs.

You have also been appropriately changed from Levofloxacin to another antibiotic as you developed a rash and allergic symptoms. For your headache I would suggest some. Over the counter pain relievers like Tylenol, Ibuprofen etc and make sure to get advise from your doctor as it is mandatory for you to receive omeprazole or other PPI to prevent developing ulcers.

I hope your chest x-ray and blood work were normal as the details are not provided in your question.

Keep yourself well hydrated and take rest. I believe your physician is taking the appropriate measures required. You might have to stop worrying and believe in the care provided. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manoj Pradeep
