How Can Food Poisoning Be Treated?

We visited Mexico last week. I got sick for a couple of days there. I had diarrhea, but no vomiting. Not sure what caused it. I went on an antibiotic there and finished it yesterday. mFor the last 3 days of vacation, and since we got home 2 days ago, my stomach has been bloated and hurting. What can I do?

Hello,
I've gone through your question however I do not have few necessary details like what antibiotic you were on and for how long. The diarrhea would have been subsided by your use of antibiotic but there are chances that the same antibiotic could have caused damage to the normal bacteria found in your intestine. That's the reason why most of the time prolonged diarrhea is treated together with probiotics. The bloating and pain might be due to accumulation of gas and resultant colitis. There are even chances of you developing antibiotic associated clostridium dificle infection. I would suggest you that you visit your doctor who can make a lab test and diagnose the condition. For time being I would suggest Cyclopam (Dicycloamine and acetaminophen) that can provide you symptomatic relief from the pain. Additionally you can even try to boost up your normal bacterial flora by consuming yogurt or other lactobacilli probiotic tablets or food products available.
