Since the doctor must have examined you and investigated you and found no other problem for your problems other that low levels of Vitamin D, you will have to take the vitamin D supplement once a month till the blood levels reach normal values of minimum 25 mg/dl. The only source of this vitamin is sunlight. Hence if your job is of the nature that you are not exposed to sunlight much, then you may have to take the supplement periodically as advised by the doctor, for a long time.
