How Can Endometrial Hyperplasia Be Treated?

Hello Doctor I had a c section two years ago and since then my period is heavier than it was before I had my baby.. and lasts a day longer than before.. I went to see my gynae who recommended I do a d&c as well as a scope to go inside and see my uterus as he said my endometrial lining was too thick 18mm. is this a good idea or can medication be the way to go? I had a very bad recovery with my c-section having to go back to hospital for a week due to severe anaemia and bleeding from my scar site. I am reluctantant to go the theatre for the d&c since my c-section ended up badly.

Hello,

It is advisable to go for dilation and curettage (D&C) as your endometrial thickening is 18 mm and you are having increased bleeding. Whether it is hyperplasia or atypical one can be diagnosed by dilation and curettage only. If it is hyperplasia, the treatment is with medications only. Dilation and curettage is a simple day care procedure, and you can proceed with your works.
