How Can Elevated Triglycerides Be Treated?

High triglycerides, plt 100,000, spleen and liver normal, left thigh bone pain after pulling hip that went back in (x ray is normal) Ht 5 6 Wt 127, age 67 female. Thyroid has been normal, kidney function normal. Any suggestions? Other blood work is normal.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since other reports seem to be normal except for high triglycerides, it may not be necessary for additional investigation work-up. Since you have not mentioned the values, I would rather suggest at this stage to bring down the triglyceride levels by means of diet and exercise. Consume more quantity of raw or baked vegetables along with fruits in the diet. Consume only moderate quantities of carbohydrates and fats. Exercise regularly by performing brisk walk for 30 minutes daily. Check triglycerides after 3 months. If the levels have come down substantially, continue with the same regimen.
