How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Levels Be Treated?

Hi! My name is Anita K. I am an RN (graduated in 1979 with BSN); have been working part time as RN. My brother is an MD; my sister is an RN; my other sister is a psychologist LOL. Here is my question. I saw my MD today; he is a five star rated MD, specialty geriatrics. I am a 60 YO WF. I first was diagnosed with hypertension (mild) at age 50, when I started taking HRT for menopausal symptoms of hot flashes and night sweats. The HRT controlled those symptoms, but elevated my BP slightly. I was on Coreg 10mg QD; asked the MD to take me off of it because it was too expensive. He put me on Spironolactone 25 mg QD, QAM. My BP since then (5 ish years ago) usually runs about 110/70. But, due to recent work stress, my BP has been running higher. My MD OK d me to increase Sprionolactone from 25 mg QD to 50 mg QD 3 days ago. I saw my MD today, and my BP was 160/90. He added a new med, Norvasc, 5 mg, which I start tomorrrow, do you agree?

Norvasc is a calcium channel blocker and is the correct or rather good drug to add to your regime.the initial dosage is to start with 2.5mg but given the patient history which your prescribing Dr knows better as to starting with 5.i suggest we continue with his regime and follow up see if this workd out
