How Can Dryness And Redness On The Areola Be Treated?
I m a 39 y.o. woman. About three months ago my left areola developed a couple of small bumps on the lower edge with dryness and redness. The dryness has gradually covered my entire left areola and actually has started to show on my right areola as well, also from the outer edge in. I ve tried a steroid cream from a previous prescription for 2 weeks. It helped, but the dryness returned as soon as I stopped using it. I then tried an anti-fungal cream recommended by my pharmacist. It didn t help. Any recommendations?
Since you are 39 years old and have such changes at areola, cancer should be ruled out. I would advise you the following in such a situation. Consult a Dermatologist or preferably Doctors in onco/cancer areas for clinical evaluation, examination of both breasts and armpits to have a clinical evaluation, examination and investigations like Ultrasonography and Mammography of both breasts and armpits to find any lumps. If there is no evidence of any cancer then you should get a proper diagnosis by the Dermatologist and get treated as per the cause found. Stop applying anything locally as these change the character of the disease.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
