How Can Diabetes Ketoacidosis Be Diagnosed?

Hi...I am looking for info on diabetes and ketoacidosis. My company thought I was drinking one night, and I had not, but there was a smell that I can't explain. I did some research and plan on seeing my primary, but i want to know how to ask the right questions. Thanks
