How Can Cold And Cough Be Treated?

I have had a bad cold for 3 days. I have cough stuffy and sinus go from constant running to stuffed up. My blood pressure has gone up to 150/90. I usually have 130/80. I am on Antenolol / 50 mg and Quinapril./ 30 mg. Should I be concerned about my B/P?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is understandable to be concerned regarding the increase in blood pressure but this due to your body being under stress from the cold and may also be related to medications that you are using to relieve your symptoms.

Any medication with a decongestant could potentially increase blood pressure.

The increase to 150/90 would not cause any acute problems; it is only when a person has this or a high blood pressure for a long period of time that damage can occur.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
