How Can Chronic Liver Disease Be Treated?

My Primary Care Phyician (PA) who has prescribed me melds since 2007 has me on Gabapentin Neurontin 300MG, Celebrex 200MG, was on Crestor 10 MG, Lotensin 5 MG and now Aciphex 20MG. I am 63 years old and have High Blood Pressure (controlled) GERD - was on Nexium for years. I was just told I have chronic liver decease 3 weeks ago and immediately stopped drinking and taking any mess that are bad for the liver. Also went on a strict diet avoiding anything bad for the liver. I will see a nutritionist/dietician next week and a liver specialist (Tampa General). Any advice would be appreciated as I am obviously fighting for my life. Also just started Medi-Weight Loss diet and recognize that taking Phentermine once daily is not good but I need to lose weight if I need an operation.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think you may be suffering from chronic alcoholic liver disease. Which may cause abdominal distension and pedal edema also signs of liver cell failure. Avoid salty diet, avoid animal protein, take protein per day. Use diuretics to reduce volume overload. If you're suffering from decompensated liver failure need to undergo surgery. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
