How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated?

What I thought was just a cold is still hanging around. My glands are tender to the touch, I get really bad coughing spells (make me want to throw up), my body temperature ranges from feeling like I m freezing to being very warm. It s been over a week and it s interrupting my sleep and draining my energy.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query, you have symptoms of a chronic cough which is due to upper respiratory tract infection leading to Pharyngitis.

I would suggest you do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day. Take cough expectorants. Your symptoms will resolve in 1 week. If symptoms keep on persisting, then you should consult pulmonologist once and take proper treatment.

You should get sputum test and culture along with X-ray chest and auscultation. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics such as Azithromycin along with anti-inflammatory medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
