How Can Chest Pain Caused By An Injury Be Treated?

my wife hit her self in the chest with the handle on a two wheel dolly about three months ago and is still having a lot of pain in her chest in the sternum area. she went to her doctor about a month ago and had a chest xray but everything looked ok. any ideas on why it would still hurt.

Hi,
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
As per your complain the pain in her chest is due to some inflammation caused by blunt trauma. If I were your treating physician I would do X-ray to rule out fracture. In your case X-ray suggest there is no fracture so you don't need to worry much.
The other rare cause for pain is the hematoma (collection of blood) following trauma.
You need not to worry as there seems nothing serious. You can use simple analgesics like ibuprofen.Warm compresses over the affected area can give symptomatic relief.
If the pain persist despite all these I suggest you to consult a general surgeon or an orthopedician. He might do detailed evaluation to rule out hematoma. You may require a repeat X-ray,If pain is very severe you have to take an intercostal block(injection between your ribs).
Hope this information helps.

Wishing you good health.
Regards.
