How Can Cardiomyopathy With Mitral Valve Regurgitation Be Treated?

I have cardiomyopathy with mitral valve regurgitation. My last echo showed a false positive of 45%. I know that I have a dilated atrium and and have been fighting this monster for more that thirty years. My team in San Antonio now feel I my be a candidate for a mitral valve clip. I asymtomatic and suffer little of the classic symptoms .i was the typical weekend athlete that ran 5 miles a day, weight lifted ,wrestled, and even at one point tried with a pro football team. I am curious to find out how successful this procedure is with a patient like me who has been with this conition gor so long can expect a better life style.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You are right that intervention in valve is only recommended if there are severe symptoms. However there are few exceptions to this rule and some times severe valve regurgitation without symptoms may need intervention.

The reason is left vein dysfunction or increasing right side pressure. So this may be a reason that your doctor want to clip .You can always discuss with them.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
