How Can Breast Cancer Be Treated?

My daughter is about to undergo a course of Taxotere for breast cancer. She is offered the choice of weekly infusions or a lesser does, or every 3-4 weeks with a high dose. Given the possibility of permanent hair loss and other possible side effects, which would you recommend?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. Welcome to Healthcaremagic. I read your query and I understand your concern. Taxotete is normally given every three weeks over approximately one hour.

In primary breast cancer three to six treatment cycles are usually given. For locally advanced and secondary breast cancer the number of cycles will vary depending on the individual.

The time between each cycle of treatment gives your body time to recover This may vary depending on whether the number of blood cells has returned to normal between each cycle.

Before each cycle you will be given medication to reduce the chances of any possible reactions.
Take care. Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help you.
Best regards. Dr.Olgeta Xhufka ( general and family physician ).
